Apax reveals new sustainability commitments in the form of 9 key targets set for 2027 and publishes its first dedicated Sustainability Report

October 27, 2022

Paris, 27 October 2022 – Apax, one of Europe’s leading private equity firms, has revealed a new set of sustainability commitments together with a revised and ambitious strategy and published its first dedicated Sustainability Report: 9 targets set for Apax itself and for its portfolio companies, covering 3 different themes and to be met by 2027.

Apax is firmly convinced that businesses can only achieve a positive impact and create long-term value if they make sustainability a top priority and turn it into a strategic focal point; this applies both to Apax itself and to its portfolio companies.

The world today is constantly evolving and faces many challenges. Apax thus seeks to provide its portfolio companies with the right guidance and support so that they can fully grasp the challenges that lie ahead and meet the ever-changing needs of their various stakeholders (clients, employees, investors, the environment, etc.).

Apax was keen to step up its involvement and take on a new dimension, and so it decided a year ago to create the role of Chief Sustainability Officer, which is held by Dominica Adam, and to appoint Gregory Salinger as Operating Partner Digital and Sustainability, the aim being to turn sustainability into a focus for value creation that will help our portfolio companies become future-ready.

Apax’s new strategy was drawn up in association with its stakeholders and begins with a definition of its corporate purpose, which is “to build a purpose-driven, human and resilient future, with quantified goals”, says Eddie Misrahi, President of Apax.   The strategy is presented in our new Sustainability Report and breaks down into 3 key themes and 9 targets. These targets are to be met by 2027 or during the holding period for each of our portfolio companies, and they also apply to Apax itself.

Sustainability Strategy applicable to Apax and its portfolio companies out to 2027:

Building a purpose-driven future

1. Define a formal purpose and sustainability strategy

2. Set net-zero targets

3. Nominate independent or external Board members

4. Set sustainability-linked performance targets

Nurturing people

5. Grow human capital and implement an employee-engagement tool

6. Define an ethical culture

7. Ensure 30% of seats on executive committees are held by women

8. Deploy profit-sharing schemes for employees

Promoting positive societal impact

9. Roll out a positive measured societal program with NGOs through our Apax Philanthropy Fund

We are thrilled to present our new sustainability strategy and roadmap for the coming years as it will help to steer both our own actions and those of our portfolio companies. We firmly believe we can help to transform our portfolio companies by encouraging them to embrace sustainability as a strategic priority and thus create long-term value

Dominica Adam, Chief Sustainability Officer at Apax.
